Baroka Confirm Harrison As New TD
Baroka FC have confirmed that former Township Rollers head coach, Mark Harrison, has joined the club as their new Technical Director.
Harrison had been the head coach of Rollers for around 18 months, however decided that it was time to make the move to South Africa, bemoaning people in Botswana that ‘really make it hard to do things’.
The news of the Englishman’s arrival was also confirmed by Bakgaga boss, Khurishi Mphahlele, who explained that he had come in to help Kgokolo Thobejane keep the team in the Absa Premiership.
Speaking to Rollers’ official website after saying his goodbyes, Harrison said, “In terms of how the club is administered. this is the best African club I’ve worked for. If the club and its president Jagdish Shah were to be given an opportunity to run things without obstacles, and other clubs benchmark, Botswana football as a whole would benefit. It is not just about having finances, it’s about doing things right, in a professional manner.
“To be honest a month or two ago I would have rejected the offer, but when it came I thought things through and decided to move. There have been people in Botswana football who really make it hard to do things, and I felt the need to move to the South African set up. But I’ve really enjoyed my time with Rollers, I was here for 18 months, we won the league, reached the Mascom Top 8 final, and as I leave we are second two points behind the leaders, and into the semifinal of the cup.”
Baroka also explained that they are talking to former Orlando Pirates man, Deshi Bhaktawar, about a potential role at the club, but are unsure of his situation at present.
