Maritzburg United have confirmed that former coach, Ernst Middendorp, presented the club with his resignation last Thursday, 10 October.
His resignation came after the club's defeat to Platinum Stars in the Telkom Knockout. Additionally, the club revealed that after meeting with the club’s Board of Directors , Chairman Farook Kadodia accepted the resignation.
In the days leading up to his resignation, Middendorp had been quite vocal in the media about his supposed unfair treatment by the club. The 54-year-old was later unveiled as Bloemfontein Celtic's new coach.
Kadodia revealed to the club's official website about why the club let the German coach go.
He said, “In light of the coach’s outburst in the media after the league games against Mpumalanga Black Aces and Moroka Swallows, and the fact that he was already in contact with Bloemfontein Celtic regarding their head coach vacancy before having even submitted his resignation to us, clearly showed that the coach’s commitment to the club was no longer existent."
Kadodia added, “I am really disappointed with the behaviour as this not what is expected of a head coach. The reaction to the fans was unprofessional and this behaviour is not condoned by the club."
“Maritzburg United and Bloemfontein Celtic have agreed a compensation amount, which will see Ernst take over as head coach of Bloemfontein Celtic with immediate effect...we wish him well in his future endeavours “ concluded United's Chairman.
The club also revealed that a new head coach would likely be announced in the coming week, after further interviews are conducted.
