Lebogang Manyama is still reluctant to reveal exactly what happened in 2013, when Kaizer Chiefs announced his imminent signing from Ajax Cape Town, only for the player to put pen to paper with SuperSport United.
In 2013, Amakhosi released a statement saying, ”Kaizer Chiefs can now reveal the imminent move of Ajax Cape Town midfield player, Lebogang Manyama, to Naturena.
“The talks between the two clubs have been concluded. The matter now rests upon the 23-year-old Manyama agreeing (to) terms with the Amakhosi. Kaizer Chiefs has made their intentions known in terms of bolstering their squad as part of preparing for the CAF Championship adventure.”
However, to the football fraternity’s surprise, the move did not materialise and at the time it was revealed that the 26-year-old turned down Chiefs and opted to move to the Tshwane giants instead.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, the Cape Town City captain maintained that there is more to the story and opts to remain tight-lipped about the saga, but one day hopes to reveal exactly what happened.
“Yeah, it happened before and people keep saying I turned Chiefs down, but there’s a whole story behind that (not joining Chiefs), which I hope to tell everyone one day,” Manyama responded when asked about Chiefs unsuccessful attempt to lure him to Naturena.
“The bottom line is that whatever happened, happened and I have moved on from it. When I finally reveal what happened, people will understand why the move didn’t happen. For now, they continue to talk about what they saw in the media and I decided to keep quiet about it. Life goes on at the end of the day,” he added.
