Kaizer Motaung Reaffirms SL’s Chiefs Transfer Feature
Kaizer Chiefs Chairman, Kaizer Motaung, has addressed the club’s transfer policy, days after Soccer Laduma’s feature on the Amakhosi transfer policy was published.
In edition 1022 of Soccer Laduma, we featured an in-depth discussion on Chiefs’ transfer policy and how the policy needs to be changed. The July/August transfer window signings were discussed, and how these new faces have not lived up to the standards of a club of Chiefs’ calibre.
In the particular issue, Soccer Laduma discussed the fact that amongst Amakhosi’s nine new signings in the July/August transfer window period last year, Ramahlwe Mphalele and Sibusiso Khumalo have arguably been the only two astute acquisitions made by the club, while the likes of Keagan Buchanan and Lewis Macha have had very little game-time under the mentorship of Head Coach Steve Komphela.
This compared to Chiefs’ signings in 2012, which included the likes of Siboniso Gaxa and Siyabonga Nkosi amongst others, who went on to help Amakhosi lift the Absa Premiership trophy that season, as well as the 2013 Nedbank Cup.
Subsequently, Motaung spoke to the media and he seemed to have reaffirmed the feature, by admitting that the club has made the wrong choices in the transfer window.
“It simply means we made the wrong choices,” Motaung told Timothy Molobi in an article titled ‘We chose the wrong players, admits Kaizer Motaung’, published by the City Press.
“That’s why the issue of review comes into play. We need to check if we did the right things or not. Obviously, we also need to look at our youth structure as there are some good prospects,” he added.
Chiefs have since promoted academy players, Emmanuel Letlotlo, Siyabonga Ngezana and Bruce Bvuma so far, this 2016/17 season, however, neither of these youngsters were able to cement their spot in the first-team.
