Chiefs To Host Club Awards This Week

Kaizer Chiefs will host the club’s annual awards ceremony this week, with the 2016/17 season having come to an end.

The Amakhosi beat Absa Premiership champions, Bidvest Wits, on Saturday afternoon as the curtain came down on another trophyless campaign, however, they did manage to finish fourth – one place above their finish last year.

Last year it was the midfielder, Willard Katsande, who went on to win the Player of the Season, Online Player of the Season, Fans' Player of the Season, and Players' Player of the Season accolades, however, this year’s winners remain unknown.

Katsande could be amongst the winners once again, having played more games than any other Glamour Boy this season, however, new signing, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, is a player who has also asserted himself this season, along with his defensive counterpart, Lorenzo Gordinho.

Siphiwe Tshabalala is set to at least win the club’s top scorer award following his eight goals across all competitions, although Bernard Parker could make a late push if he has a good outing against the Clever Boys this weekend.

Having now gone two full seasons without a single trophy to their name, the 2016/17 campaign will be one that Steve Komphela and the club will want to forget and rather focus on coming back stronger in 2017/18.

It is believed that the awards will take place on Thursday evening.
