Kaizer Chiefs fans are said to be divided in their support for Steve Komphela as head coach of the team, as per Soccer Laduma findings.
In a poll conducted on the Soccer Laduma website, 52% of respondents believe that Steve Komphela is the right head coach for the Glamour Boys, while 48% believe he is not.
Komphela took charge of the Amakhosi bench at the start of the 2015/16 season, on the back of a league and cup winning campaign, and, in his first season at the helm, has led the team to two cup finals – the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout.
However, the team failed to clinch silverware on either of those occasions. In addition, they were knocked out of this year’s Nedbank Cup by city rivals Orlando Pirates and have struggled to keep up with Mamelodi Sundowns in the chase for this season’s Absa Premiership title.
Amakhosi have suffered four consecutive defeats with their latest loss coming in a 1-0 home defeat against relegation threatened, Jomo Cosmos on Tuesday night.
Following last weekend’s loss in the CAF Champions League, a fraction of irate Chiefs fans projected missiles towards Komphela to protest the team’s current run of form and the Siya crew has been led to believe that Chiefs’ fans are divided on the former Free State Stars mentor.
Some of Chiefs’ fans believe that Komphela has not done enough to lead the team to success and has proven that he is not the right man for the role, whilst others believe, if given time, the former Maritzburg United coach can take the team forward
However following their latest loss, it is believed that club management has started to discuss potential targets, should any immediate decisions be made regarding Komphela’s future.
As things stand, there is a good chance that the team will finish the season without a trophy and the side’s personnel will be reviewed at the end of the campaign.
What are your thoughts on Chiefs’ season thus far? Who do you think should shoulder the blame for their poor performances?
