Jimmy Tau Announces His Retirement

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates captain, Jimmy Tau, announced his retirement from professional football on Tuesday, at the Soweto Hotel and Conference Centre, in Gauteng.

Having been released by Chiefs at the end of last season, on the back of double league and cup winning campaign, Tau has decided to hang up his boots.

The Kimberley-born defender made the announcement this morning, paying tribute to both Chiefs and Pirates.

Tau said, “I have to thank both Mr Khoza and Mr Motaung for entrusting me with captaining the two biggest teams in South Africa and I also want to ask all the coaches who helped me develop in my football career.

“But I will continue fighting on in my life in different areas on the game. I have reached a period where I think I have made my contribution in the game and look at the other opportunity that God has given me.

“The injury I got also played a part in my changing my staying in football,” Tau concluded.
