Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund said that he was always confident that his side would have too much for Botswana after they beat the Zebras 4-1 on Saturday.
The South Africans secured victory thanks to goals from Kermit Erasmus and Dean Furman, as well as a brace from Bernard Parker.
Igesund says that he knew the goals would come, but after winning three of the four qualifiers he was in charge of, he was immensely disappointed to miss out on a place in the play-offs for Brazil.
"Obviously I'm very pleased (with the win). I said before without sounding to confident, we worked on a lot of things and I always said goals were going to come when we play the way I know we can play," he said.
"I've got to say congratulations to our team, I thought they were outstanding in the first-half and we did what we had to do in the second-half.
"Well done to Botswana, they came here, but I think today we were just better than them."
On their elimination, he added, "It's a huge disappointment for us not to qualify, also for me personally because I have been in charge of four qualifiers and won three of them. So for me it is very disappointing for us not to go to the World Cup."
