Highlands Promoted To NFD!
Johannesburg-based, Highlands Park, have been promoted to the National First Division after winning their third consecutive ABC Motsepe Play-Off match.
Steve Haupt’s outfit beat bottom-of-the-log Natal United 2-0 to be crowned Group B champions, but their next hurdle is Sunday’s Final which has prize money worth a cool R1-million on offer.
An ecstatic Brad Kaftel, one of Highland’s shareholders, has praised his head coach.
“For me Steve Haupt is a top professional,” Kaftel told Soccer Laduma. The difference is he’s full-time, that’s for starters. So he can apply his mind one hundred percent. It’s not only his good tactical knowledge but he has far more to offer. He had a programme set up day by day in the lead up to this tournament with regards to aspects such as food, vitamins, physiotherapist and massage.”
The fourth day of this competition produced goals galore with Group A leaders, Cape Town All Stars thrashing Shining Stars 5-1, Apollo overpowering Angavu 2-1 and Magesi FC whipping Steach United 3-0 (although this Group B result meant very little).
What is important is that although Cape Town Stars have nine points in the bag, should Apollo manage to grab a victory in their final match against Angavu on Saturday, then the Mpumalanga side will be promoted instead.
Fans are therefore expected to flock to the King Zwelithini Stadium for this crucial encounter which starts at 13h00.
