Glendene Appoint Byrne As Head Of Youth
ABC Motsepe League side, Glendene United, have appointed David Byrne as their new Head of Youth, with the former Hellenic & Santos player taking control of their Bayhill U19 side.
David, who is the son of former England and West Ham United striker, John ‘Budgie’ Byrne, has been tasked with taking over the ambitious club’s youth setup and helping them in their attempts to nurture some of the Western Cape’s best talent.
Byrne spent some time playing alongside the late Kaizer Chiefs legend, Patrick 'Ace' Ntsoelengoe at Toronto Blizzard in the American NASL before returning to South Africa in 1994 to play for both Hellenic and Santos.
Rui Alves, who represents Byrne, told the Siya crew, “I believe David will be a great addition to the very ambitious & professional team that is led by chairman, Mr Shafiek Mowzer. Glendene are currently top of the Western Cape league and hopefully David can help in their success.”
The famed Metropolitan Under-19 Premier Cup begins next month.
