Mhango: Celtic Said I Should Leave Immediately
Gabadinho Mhango has spoken about his situation at Bloemfontein Celtic after the club dismissed him following his decision to join Bidvest Wits.
The Malawian international has been one of the signings of the season in South Africa after joining the Clever Boys at the start of the campaign and is currently still in the chase for the Golden Boot having scored eight Absa Premiership goals thus far.
However, his Wits career got off to a tumultuous start after Celtic reacted badly to his decision to sign a pre-contract in Braamfontein, asking him to leave immediately when hearing the news.
Speaking about the situation in the latest issue of Soccer Laduma, the 24-year-old said, “After I signed a pre-contract with Wits, Celtic said I should leave the club immediately… This happened after Wits posted a story on their website that I had signed a pre-contract with them. Mhango then went on to join Golden Arrows until the end of the season.
“They thought it would be better for me to leave immediately. I was cool about it and not upset... I left for Jo’burg immediately, before joining Golden Arrows.”
And did he have a point to prove when he scored to help his new side beat his old one in October? “No, I don’t play football to prove a point. I was just playing my normal football. There were no emotions on my part. I was just enjoying my football.”
