FIFA Steps In On Miheso Gun Incident

FIFPro, the International Federation of Professional Footballers, today revealed that FIFA has now taken an interest in the case involving Clifton Miheso and Golden Arrows.
The Kenyan alleges that Abafana Bes’thende that two armed men pressured him into signing a document agreeing to terminate his contract, before their owner, Mato Madlala, persuaded him to drop his police complaint.
Now, with the player continuing to fight his corner, world football’s governing body has gotten involved and are reportedly asking questions about their request to have the matter heard by a local arbitration.
FIFPro said in a statement today, “FIFA is looking into an attempt by Golden Arrows to have the case of Clifton Miheso - the Kenyan player pressured into quitting the club by two gunmen - heard by a South African federation arbitration panel.
“Normally, disputes with an international dimension are heard by a FIFA arbitration panel, which is what 24-year-old Miheso has requested. The South African arbitration body has on more than one occasion been declared unfit to adjudicate on disputes for not complying with FIFA requirements.
“FIFA has written to Durban-based Golden Arrows to provide more information on why it is requesting that the dispute should be overseen by the national body.”
Meanwhile, Vusi Mtimani, SAFPU’s Media Liaison Officer, said on the matter, “We’re happy with the progress so far on #JusticeForMiheso, with FIFA handling the matter. However, we would like to state it clear that SAFA and PSL DRC are not compliant to FIFA Statutes so it will be a useless exercise if this case is handled locally.

"We trust in FIFA to give necessary judgment and justice for Clifton Miheso. This must set an example to all African clubs that players are workers also. So they are protected by Labour Relations Act.”
