Zulu To Become Chiefs’ Main Striker?
Despite suffering their first loss in 19 Absa Premiership matches this season, new Kaizer Chiefs striker, David Zulu, who had a good showing in the second half of their 2-0 defeat to SuperSport United, is now tipped to become the club’s main striker.
Zulu joined the team in the January transfer window from PSL outft, Chippa United, but is yet to register a goal in an Amakhosi shirt, having already banged five league goals while at the Chilli Boys.
News reaching the Siya crew is that the technical team have decided to give the Mondlo-born forward the chance to be the main striker.
A Soccer Laduma source at the club told the Siya crew that the striker has proved that he can do the job for the team.
"They talked about it and they thought that if Zulu can be given more chances to play, he can work his socks off to be their main striker. They agreed that on Tuesday he would come in as a substitute, for which he showed signs of brilliance," said the source.
Following the departure of Kingston Nkhatha to Tshwane, head coach Stuart Baxter has already stated that Bernard Parker will not be played in a number nine role.
The club’s other strikers have rarely had a run. Katlego Mphela is still working his way back to full fitness since fracturing a bone in his foot last season, while Siphelele Mthembu and Matthew Rusike have had cameo roles this campaign.
Chiefs next host minnows, Edu Sports FC in the Nedbank Cup last 32 on Saturday, which could be Zulu's perfect time to prove himself to the Amakhosi technical team if he gets a run.
