City & Lechesa Part Ways

Word coming out of the Polokwane City camp is that the club and coach Duncan Lechesa have parted ways.

The news comes on the back of yesterday’s 2-1 loss to Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, in the PSL newcomer’s fourth league game of the 2013/14 season.

Lechesa joined the Limpopo-based outfit last year and helped them gain promotion from the NFD to South Africa’s top flight, however has battled to keep the momentum going this season in the PSL.

City have lost all four of their opening four Absa Premiership fixtures, having conceded eight goals in the process, while scoring four, which leaves them sat at the foot of the log standings on zero points.

Soccer-Laduma sources close to the club have revealed that Lechesa has been sent packing after the poor run of form and added that assistant coach, Mandla Ncikazi, has also parted ways with the side.

According to the sources, a caretaker coach will take charge of the bench on Wednesday night in the team’s league outing in Soweto against Orlando Pirates, while Ian Palmer has been earmarked as a possible long-term replacement to Lechesa.

The source explained that club Chairman, Johnny Mogaladi, had told both Lechesa and Ncikazi that Wednesday's game against Bucs would be their last in charge, however the duo opted to leave before the mid-week game.

With City yet to secure a single point this season, they will be looking to upset Pirates this week, however will be up against the odds when they take on the Soweto giants.
