One of the priorities of Maritzburg United during the pre-season period was to bring in a striker capable of filling the boots of Cuthbert Malajila.
The Zimbabwean ended up amongst the PSL leading scorers, which prompted Mamelodi Sundowns to come in and secure his signature. The 27-year-old rattled in 13 goals in all competitions last season and is now expected to give the likes of Katlego Mphela a real run for his money at Chloorkop.

According to Soccer-Laduma’s stats, Malajila was one of the most clinical finishers in the league last season and finding someone to replace him was always going to be a big asking. The striker had the second highest shooting accuracy rating amongst the PSL’s most prolific strikers, with 44.74% of his shots finding the target.
This all suggests that his replacement, Yakubu Mohammed, is going to have his work cut out in the 2013/14 campaign. Yet, the Ghanaian could have the pedigree to do so after he found the net 14 times for Ashanti Gold in Ghana last season.

A source at Maritzburg revealed to Soccer-Laduma that Mohammed’s progress has been very good, and it’s a major reason why the club were said to have handed him a long-term deal.
The striker was previously linked with a move to Orlando Pirates, although it fell through. Mohammed is expected to wear the number nine shirt for the Team of Choice.
