Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Brilliant Khuzwayo, believes his opposite number at Orlando Pirates, Brighton Mhlongo, has grown as a player and looks up to the Bucs shot stopper.
Mhlongo was thrown into the deep end after the tragic passing of Senzo Meyiwa last year of being handed the unenviable task of filling the late Bafana Bafana and Pirates captain’s shoes.
Khuzwayo thinks the 24-year-old has more than managed the challenge and has indicated that he now looks up to Pirates goalkeeper who is one year his junior.
“After the sudden passing of Senzo, Brighton took over the number one jersey under difficult circumstances at Pirates, and I think he has handled himself like a man and proved that he is made of sterner stuff,” the 25-year-old Chiefs shot stopper told Soccer Laduma
“It makes me happy that his game has been growing in leaps and bounds and that he has shown that he wishes to be regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in South Africa. When I look at Mhlongo, I see myself as the one who is still learning the trade.”
“I look at him as somebody who is better than me when goalkeeping is concerned, I really feel excited when I watch him making those acrobatic saves and, at times, wish I can be like him. Outside of football, he always makes me laugh when we are together. He keeps me motivated all the time and I learn a lot from him,” he added.
