Arrows Coach Mngqithi Resigns

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has resigned despite the club's Telkom Knockout win away to Wits on Friday night.

Arrows have suffered a disastrous start to the season as they are down in 13th place with just four points from six games played.

They enjoyed a positive result in the Telkom Knockout, winning away to the Clever Boys, but the club's official site says that the coach has decided to leave his post as it is in the best interests of the club.

A statement on the club's official site read, "The Head Coach of Lamontville Golden Arrows Football Club, Mr. Manqoba  has taken a decision to step down as the head coach of the club.

"Mngqithi took this decision in view of the fact that results have not been forthcoming for the club despite the hard work and effort that he has invested in the position since the beginning of the season.

"In response to questions Manqoba commented that he took this decision in the best interest of the club. The club has accepted Mr. Mngqithi decision and takes this opportunity to wish him well with his future endeavors."

The coach added, "The current situation is not through lack of trying or anything like that. When results are not forthcoming it becomes a situation which one needs to be realistic about it, and make decisions which are for the good of the entire club.

"Sometimes a change can have a positive effect and change the fortunes of a club. This is a club which has great potential and I believe it is only a question of time before things improve.

"I have enjoyed my time here and worked well with the management and the players. It is always difficult to make decisions such as these but I honestly believe I am acting in the best interests of everyone here and I know that there is appreciation for the fact that I have put the interests of the club first."
