Ajax Cape Town’s U19s were knocked out of the Ergenzingen Tournament in Germany today after suffering a penalty shootout defeat in the semifinals.
Having beaten Zurich 3-0 as well as drawing with Vfb Stuttgart and Wolverhamption Wanderers, the Urban Warriors’ youth side were pitted against Chivas Guadalajara in the semis.
Ajax took on the Mexican side earlier today as they went in pursuit of a place in the final of the tournament, having already bettered their ninth place finish at the Terborg Toernooi earlier this month, however were unable to finish the job after taking the lead. They eventually lost 3-1 on penalties after the game ended 1-1.
The likes of Ziyaad Eksteen, Olwethu Nguye and Riyaad Norodien have impressed in the tournament and will be hoping to perform one final time in the third fourth playoff tomorrow.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper, Jody February, who recently made his Absa Premiership debut, sadly had to return home to South Africa early following the passing of his father.
