Report: EA Fire Up To 100 Staff After FIFA Split Announcement

Reports suggest that Electronic Arts have laid off up to 100 employees following their split with FIFA.

The gaming giants recently announced that they had split with FIFA and would be creating their own football game brand, to be named EA SPORTS FC.

The decision has meant that the FIFA license is now up for grabs, and there have already been links with Take-Two Interactive, who own the 2K sporting franchises.

EA have become a renowned creator of sports titles, with the likes of Madden, FIFA, PGA and UFC in their stable over the years.

However, Kotaku report that up to 100 employees at the EA Austin offices have been fired since the split with FIFA, revealing that customer service reps were most affected.

Kotaku quote a source as saying that the decision comes after "repeated complaints by EA Austin and Galway staff of insufficient annual raises."

EA, however, dismissed links between the announcement of the split and the staff changes, with a representative quoted by Kotaku as saying, "The changes in our customer support function are not tied to any one gaming franchise, nor are they connected to our EA SPORTS FC announcement last week.

"The customer support function support a wide range of player questions pertaining to our gaming titles, technology, including Origin or our EA Play subscription service."
