FIFA 22's Game Changing Technology

FIFA 22 promises to change the game with the introduction of Hypermotion technology.

The hype as we build up to the release of the latest instalment of EA FIFA has begun, and the buzzword being used this time around is Hypermotion.

Although fans were keen to see how football would transition into the next generation, FIFA 21 was more of a pretty cover, rather than a game built for the latest consoles.

However, FIFA 22 is likely to break the mould somewhat, and Hypermotion promises to offer more realism than ever before.

This technology allowed the developers to record a full 11 v 11 match using Xsens suits, providing incredible data from 22 professional footballers while they were playing at high intensity.

Previously, animations would have been captured in a small studio whereas now, they are able to access "unprecedented volume of high-quality real-human movement data" which "powers how both individuals and teams move across FIFA 22."

Added to this, machine learning algorithms means that the system has learned from the millions of frames captured.

The boosted power of the likes of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S has also allowed for deeper player intelligence in both attack and defence.

According to EA, players in attack will have "the ability to make up to 6x more decisions per second." This gives attackers more awareness of their surroundings, allows them to make smarter runs in build-up play, and lets them react to loose balls quicker.

In regards to defending players, they added, "Rewritten defensive AI gives teams the ability to act as a tactical unit, retaining their shape to move across the pitch and cover vacant space."
