Cross-play has been in the spotlight for some time for many online titles, and the hugely popular football simulator, FIFA, is one of them.
To date, players could only challenge their friends online if they were playing on the same platform, but it seems like this will change going forward.
EA officially confirmed that cross-play testing will begin to take place in FIFA 22, and also revealed which game modes will be impacted.

The two modes mentioned are Online Seasons and Online Friendlies. According to RealSport101, EA stated that limiting the testing to these two modes will hopefully reduce the chance of bringing new issues into the game.
However, before getting too excited, the testing of this feature will not be across generations, so right now it will only be available on next-generation consoles.
This means the testing is limited to players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Stadia.
