Eight Players That Could Leave Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Motaung has already expressed his opinion that Kaizer Chiefs have made mistakes in the transfer market and a number of players could well be on their way out of the club.
Chiefs have now gone two full seasons without a trophy under Steve Komphela and while the head coach still seems to have the support of his employers, the same can’t be said for some of his playing staff.
The club underwent wholesale changes last year when around 20 players left Naturena either being sold or after their contracts expired, with 11 new players being brought in at the start of the season to try and help them challenge for silverware once again.
Yet 12 months down the line there has still been no improvement in terms of trophies, with the only thing they have to show for their efforts is a fourth-place finish over a fifth-place one.
Now, with the club undergoing an ‘audit’ ahead of the 2017/18 campaign, it appears that there will once again be several changes to the playing staff as numerous players follow John Paintsil out of the exit door.
Mthembu’s contract expires this month and has already been told that he is surplus to requirements. He will definitely not be staying at Naturena and is on the lookout for a new club.
The Zambian has failed to live up to expectations with Chiefs, and the fact that he takes up a spot in the foreign quota will no doubt count against him. Despite being fit, he didn’t feature in a single game in 2017.
Like Macha, Katsvairo is also taking up a foreign spot that the Glamour Boys may want to free up. He played on arrival in South Africa but hasn’t kicked a ball since December.
The 21-year-old has had a bit of game time under Komphela this season but is likely to be loaned out next season in search of more regular time on the field before returning to Naturena. Still, he has a future at the club.
Similarly to Letlotlo, Moon was also handed a bit of time on the field this season but has been linked with Mbombela United in the National First Division who want to see him playing regularly for them.
Buchanan hasn’t been given much time to impress for Chiefs since signing for the club and despite receiving praise for his performances has only been given three Absa Premiership starts. May seek a loan move.
The defender is clearly not in Komphela’s plans having been given just six league starts since joining in 2015 and will no doubt be seeking an exit from Naturena in order to get his career back on track. Could be a loan or permanent move depending on what comes along.
It’s over 450 days since the Togolese forward made his last start for Chiefs, and since returning from a long-term injury he has fallen down the pecking order in Komphela’s strikeforce. Another foreign spot that could be vacated to make space.
