The Siya crew has been informed that Orlando Pirates are showing interest in Thato Thlone of Free State Stars, despite him having reportedly signed a pre-contract with Bidvest Wits.
Wits announced in January already that they signed the defender on a pre-contract. The Sturrock Park outfit made the announcement when confirming that Granwald Scott was joining the club on his return from overseas.
Thlone has been one of the consistent players for Stars, and during the 2016/17 season, the defender amassed 24 starts for Serame Letsoaka’s side. Indications from sources close to Stars is that the former Kaizer Chiefs juniors player might have attracted interest from Pirates for his performance this past season.
Thlone’s contract with Stars will expire at the end of June. As reported by the Siya crew towards the end of last year, sources confirmed that Chiefs showed interest in the 26-year-old, although it was Wits who were quick to sign him in January and confirmed his signing.
With Pirates believed to also be interested in the player, it remains unclear if the Soweto giants could reach an agreement with Wits for the defender’s move or if the Mafikeng-born player will join the PSL champions under Coach Gavin Hunt.
