Mamelodi Sundowns appear to have taken the lead in the chase for Free State Stars winger Sinethemba Jantjie.
Having signed Lucky Mohomi from Ea Lla Koto at the end of last season, the indication is that Downs are keen to lure Jantjie from Bethlehem to Chloorkop during the July/August transfer window.
As reported in edition 1025 of the Soccer Laduma newspaper, Sundowns are believed to have upped their interest in Jantjie with a view of adding him to Pitso Mosimane’s roster for the 2017/18 season.
Apart from Sundowns, the 28-year-old winger has also been linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, as his employers at Stars are expected to be inundated with enquiries for his services during this off-season.
Indications from sources close to Stars is that the club could be could be willing to negotiate with the African champions for a swap deal which includes players plus a fee in exchange for Jantjie.
Stars are said to have identified youngsters Khayelihle Shozi, Sphelele Mkhulise and Tebogo Reed, who were loaned from Sundowns to Black Leopards in the NFD for the 2016/17 season, as potential transfer targets.
“Free State Stars are keen on the three Mamelodi Sundowns players that were loaned to Black Leopards for the 2016/17 season. They are interested in all three players. They want the three players and money in exchange for Sinethemba Jantjie. There have been talks about a possible deal. Sundowns is showing serious interest in Jantjie from Stars,” a source told the Siya crew.
