Lebogang Phiri scored in the eighth minute of extra time to see his Brondby side advance to the quarterfinals of the Danish DBU Pokalen after beating Skovbakken 2-1 at the Brondy Stadion on Wednesday night.
Christian Norgaard opened the scoring for Brondby in the 11th minute before Henrik Brodersen equalised for Skovbakken in the 62nd minute which saw regulation time end 1-1.
However, up step South African Lebogang Phiri who scored what proved to be the winner in the 98th minute of the match.
Another of Mzansi’s finest in Ayanda Patosi also found the back of the net on Wednesday night, netting in Lokeren’s 4-1 win over Standard Liege in the quarterfinals of the Belgium Cup at the Stade Maurice.
Sergio Dutra opened the scoring for Lokeren in the 15th minute before Adrien Trebel equalised for Standard Liege in the 63rd minute.
Patosi scored the winner three minutes later before a brace from Mbaye Leye wrapped up the victory.
Andile Jali was not as fortunate in the Belgium Cup as he saw his side booted from tournament after KV Oostende lost 2-0 to Sporting Charleroi at the Stade du Pays de Charleroi. Jali played 46 minutes of the match before being substituted.
Darren Keet also saw his Belgium side exit the cup competition after Kortrijk lost 3-0 to Club Brugge. Keet, though, was not in goal and had to watch from the bench.
Former Bafana captain Steven Pienaar was a second half subsitute, playing just under a half hour for Everton as they drew 1-1 with Hull City.
