After months of speculation, Zungu’s future was finally confirmed this week, with Steve Kapeluschnik confirming that his client had put pen to paper on a pre-contract with Guimaraes, that will see him join them at the start of next season.
Zungu, 23, has signed a two-year contract with the Portuguese outfit that begins in July, and club legend, Meireles, says that they are very happy to have a player of Zungu’s quality making his way to the club.
Due to the player being into the last six months of his Mamelodi Sundowns contract, Guimaraes have managed to snap him up on a free transfer, however did offer around €600k (R11m) back at the start of the current season.
Meireles flew to South Africa in person together with the club’s legal counsel in order to conclude the contract this week.
Speaking about Zungu’s signing, “We have been following Bongani’s development and progress for over a year, and we are absolutely delighted to welcome such a special talent to our club.”
Guimaraes currently find themselves in sixth place in the Primeira Liga and are battling it out for a place in next season's UEFA Europa League.
