SL10.ng understands that John Ogu is currently holding high-level talks with Israeli Premier League side Hapoel Be'er Sheva regarding a contract.
The central midfielder has arrived Israel to begin discussions with the Hapoel Be'er Sheva brass.
The Nigeria international's move to the league runners-up will be finalized before the close of the summer transfer window if both parties can reach an agreement.
That said, the 26-year-old is now a free agent after severing ties with his club for the past two years, Academica, therefore, he can join any new team despite the window being shut.
“It's likely a one - year contract I will sign with Hapoel Be'er Sheva, and I'm now a free player. I just arrived here,” John Ogu told SL10.ng.
A product of famous grassroots team Flying Sport Academy, John Ogu joined NK Drava Ptuj, Slovenia in 2006 before signing for Atlético Clube de Portugal four years later.
He made a total of 44 appearances in the Portuguese Primeira Liga for União de Leiria and Academica, scoring four goals.
