Neymar has overtaken Diego Maradona and Brazil legend Romario in the FC Barcelona scoring rankings.
The 23-year-old scored a brace in the Copa del Rey semi-final return leg against Villarreal on Wednesday, and his two goals in the 3-1 win took his tally to 26 for the season.
Overall, he has now scored 41 goals since joining Barcelona from Santos in 2013, which is better than the return of two of football’s greatest legends during their time with the Catalans.
Neymar’s countryman Romario scored 39 goals in 53 games for the Catalan giants, while Argentina legend Maradona had scored 38 goals in 56 games at Camp Nou.
The in-form forward needed 74 games to reach his 41 goals, but has seemed more settled at the club this season.
With six goals in five games, Neymar is currently the second-best goal-scorer in this year’s Copa del Rey, but he could still overtake Iago Aspas, who has seven strikes to his name.
The Liverpool loanee can’t extend his lead as Sevilla were knocked out of the tournament, while Neymar can surpass him if he stars in the final on 30 May 2015.
