Lionel Messi has scored eight league goals in 2015 already, but there is only one player who can match this record and it’s not Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi scored eight goals in six league games since the turn of the year, while Ronaldo only hit the back of the net three times.
However, Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane can match Messi’s goal tally in 2015.
The 21-year-old has also scored eight goals since New Year's Day and, similar to Messi, only needed six league games to achieve this record.
Kane, who has quickly risen to stardom in England, is now the joint-best English-born striker in the Premier League this season, with 13 goals.
Overall, he has scored 23 goals in 35 games in all competitions – more than any other player in the Premier League.
Kane scored his eighth goal since the turn of the year in the 3-2 defeat against Liverpool last night, and has become Spurs' main striker.
In doing so, he has pushed €30 million signing Roberto Soldado and African Emmanuel Adebayor to the bench.
