Cristiano Ronaldo Comments On His Ballon d’Or Chances
Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has commented on his chances of reclaiming the FIFA Ballon d'Or crown from longstanding rival Lionel Messi.
The Portuguese recently won his first major international title, the European Championship, with Portugal in France, and seems destined to win this year's Golden Ball, having also lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy with Los Blancos.
"This victory will help me, but I'm not obsessed by it (the Ballon d'Or)," he told reporters after the Euro final, as quoted by AS.
"I've been looking to win (a major international trophy) for a long time now… since 2004. I'm really happy, it's one of the best moments of my career.
"I've always said that I wanted to win something with Portugal to go down in history, and I've done it."
One of Ronaldo's rivals for this year's Ballon d'Or will be Atletico Madrid and France forward Antoine Griezmann, but the Euro 2016 Player of the Tournament has insisted the prestigious title already has Ronaldo's name on it.
"The Ballon d'Or? Cristiano has won it," the Frenchman said, according to Football Espana.
"I wanted to win the trophy and then maybe think about the Ballon d'Or. Now it's no longer in my head.
"Cristiano won the most important competitions, so I think it's his."
The Euro title was Ronaldo's first major triumph with his national team, and was also the Portuguese's 18th trophy overall.
Ronaldo currently has three Ballon d'Or crowns, but lost the coveted prize to Messi last season.
