Montpellier officially announced the signing of Dolly, but while South Africans such as Kermit Erasmus and Anele Ngcongca have played in Ligue 1 before him, there are other Africans he could take inspiration from.
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba played for Marseille, and the same club also once had Abedi Pele and Andre Ayew in their ranks.
Riyad Mahrez also played in France, albeit in Ligue 2, while Monaco has had Yaya Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, George Weah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang don their shirt.
Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha also once played in Ligue 1, as did former Arsenal and FC Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, while Vincent Enyeama currently represents Lille.
Michael Essien joined Chelsea in 2005 from Lyon, while PSG's current right back is Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier.
Lastly, mention has to be made to one Africa's best ever defenders in Rigobert Song, who played 125 matches in France's top division.
