Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has explained why Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed a phone after a sustaining a nasty knock to his face in Los Blancos’ win on the weekend.
Late in Real's emphatic 7-1 win over Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday night, the Portuguese, who scored two goals in the fixture, was seen bleeding from the face after a boot from an opposition player caught him in the face.
Soon after, Ronaldo grabbed a physio's phone to look at the extent of the damage, a sentiment Zidane recently echoed in defence of the Portuguese.
"Cristiano grabbed the mobile to see if he could continue playing or not," he said, according to Sport.
"He wanted to know whether the cut was very deep or not. I am saying exactly what he told us in the dressing room after. I am not making anything up."
Ronaldo has scored 18 goals and assisted a further four strikes in 25 games across all competitions for Real so far this season, but only six of those goals have come in LaLiga.
