Steve Komphela Quotes Do The Rounds In Spanish Media
Kaizer Chiefs boss Steve Komphela's recent quotes on FC Barcelona superstar Neymar have made it into one of Spain's biggest football publications.
Following Chiefs' 3-0 win over Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup at the weekend, Komphela bemoaned his side's showboating after Gustavo Paez scored Amakhosi's third and final goal in the 82nd minute.
Komphela was unhappy to see his side concede possession so cheaply as a result of unnecessary showboating during the final stages of the match.
The head coach was quoted in Spanish publication Marca saying that skills should only be hailed if they are required to get out of a certain situation, comparing Neymar's trickery to that of players in South Africa.
"You still want to give the fans the skill and flair that they want but you must also do it in a manner that is productive. When Neymar has the ball in the corner and he flips it over someone's head, the world says 'What great skill that is, what a player,'" he said.
"When we do it in South Africa in a manner that is productive the same must go, and if not, we as coaches have to reprimand the player."
Neymar often receives criticism for his showboating in La Liga, which tends to result in players taking their frustrations out on him with crunching tackles.
Many players who have played against the Brazilian have spoken ill of his antics, despite many being entertained by the 25-year-old's flair.
