Zinedine Zidane's decision to rest Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema paid off, as Real Madrid claimed a 3-2 win over Sporting Gijon.
The La Liga leaders were without the services of Ronaldo and Benzema, who were rested, while Gareth Bales missed out through injury.
Los Blancos had the chance to take the lead in the 12th minute when Danilo picked out Lucas Vazquez, who headed wide of the target.
However, the hosts took the lead two minutes later as Duje Cop collected a flick from Vesga before volleying the ball into the back of the net.
Real hit back three minutes later as Isco curled home a fine effort into top corner to level matters for the visitors.
Zidane's charges found it tough to break down the home side's defence for the rest of the half, as the sides went into the break level.
Sporting restored their lead five minutes into the second half as Vesga headed home from close range, after being teed up by Babin.
Real then leveled matters in the 59th minute as Alvaro Morate rose well to head home Danilo's cross into the bottom corner, 2-2.
Zidane opted for a chance after 71 minutes as Mariano replaced Lucas as they pushed for a winning goal in the closing stages.
Los Blancos pushed for a winner in the closing stages and went close in the 84th minute when Sergio Ramos headed wide of the upright.
However, as they have done so many times this season, Real grabbed the winning goal in the 90th minute as Isco bagged his second goal with another fine finish into the bottom corner.
