Robin van Persie, Diego Costa or Sergio Aguero, who will follow Luis Suarez as the English Premier League's new top scorer?
Luis Suarez, who won the prize last season with 31 goals for Liverpool, has departed the Premier League to play for Barcelona in Spain and we take a look at the contenders for the golden boot in the season to come.
Robin Van Persie has been labelled as the favourite by bookmakers to run out as the top goal-scorer for the season to come. The Dutch striker will hope to overcome his fitness problems of last season, where he only managed 12 goals.
His teammate Wayne Rooney is also amongst the favourites after he seems guaranteed game-time as United captain. With 17 goals, Rooney was United's top scorer last season, but still ten goals short of his personal best from the 2011/12 season.
Second-placed on the favourites list is Daniel Sturridge and the Liverpool star will be looking to fill the goal-scoring void left by his former teammate, Luis Suarez. The 24-year-old already proved he can shine without Suarez after scoring eight goals in the Reds' nine opening games last season and finishing the season with 22 goals.
With the same odds as Sturridge is Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, who scored 17 goals for his club last season, which was interrupted by injuries. His teammate Edin Dzeko is an outsider but his 16 goal haul last season proved he cannot be overlooked despite his lack of game time.
Chelsea’s Diego Costa isn't a nailed on favourite but perhaps the best value for money. The Blues will definitely be hoping that he can replicate his goal-scoring form of last season, in which he scored 27 goals for Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku are also outside contenders with Sanchez likely to play a wing-role at his new club, while Lukaku will be eager to improve on his personal best with 15 from last season.
