The Best Player in Europe short-list will be announced today. Cristiano Ronaldo is the clear favorite to win the award, but who will be the other two final competitors?
The initial ten finalists were announced in mid-July and the award will be presented at the Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on 14 August.
Today at 03:00 pm., UEFA will announce the final three candidates which were selected by its network of correspondents from across Europe.
The final ten candidates are: Diego Costa, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer, Arjen Robben, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez, Angel di Maria and James Rodriguez.
This year is the fourth instalment of the trophy created by UEFA president Michel Platini as the equivalent to FIFA’s Ballon d’Or.
The previous winners were Messi, Andres Iniesta and Franck Ribery, who won last year after beating Messi and this year’s favourite Ronaldo in the final round of votes.
Ronaldo outperformed most of the other contenders with his new Champions League goal record (17) and helping the Los Blancos to their tenth European Cup.
In addition, he also shared the European Golden Boot with Luis Suarez and was the leading goal-scorer in La Liga.
