Barcelona’s hopes to retain their La Liga title have taken another massive blow following their 2-0 defeat at Granada on Saturday.
Only four days after Barcelona’s elimination from the Champions League, the Blaugrana have lost pace in the title race as well. While both Madrid side’s won their fixtures this weekend, Gerardo Martino’s men surprisingly lost at bottom-half side, Granada.
The defeat was already Barcelona’s fourth in La Liga in 2014 and means the defending champions have lost more games this season (5) than in the previous two together (4).
The Catalan giants now have another El Clasico against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final to prepare for. If Barcelona were to lose the game, they would likely have ended all title hopes for the season within just one week.
On Sunday morning, angered fans of the club were waiting at the Camp Nou and reportedly racially abused Barcelona’s record-signing, Neymar, when the players arrived from the away defeat.
“You should be ashamed,” and “You are just thinking about the World Cup” were some of the nicer accusations that reportedly could be heard at 00:30 on Sunday morning.
Barcelona’s superstar, Lionel Messi, had another quiet game on Saturday and it seems that no-one else can currently step up when the Argentine fails to score.
Messi has scored ten goals in his last eight games for Barcelona, but failed to score in both games against Atletico Madrid as well as on Saturday.
