Arsenal legend, Martin Keown, believes Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, is no longer special and was ‘ordinary’ last season.
Keown, who won ten trophies with Arsenal, feels that Mourinho has lost the aura he had during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, and questioned his decision to re-sign former Blues striker, Didier Drogba.
“Mourinho had something when he was first at Chelsea and then at Inter Milan but then he lost it a bit at Real Madrid,” Keown said as quoted by the Daily Star.
“He was the ordinary one last season. I was surprised Chelsea did not win it last year. He will be under a bit of pressure this season and it will be interesting.
“(Didier) Drogba could be past it and Diego Costa did not do a lot in the World Cup."
Despite his thoughts on Mourinho, Keown believes the Blues are genuine title contenders, along Premier League champions Manchester City as well as his former club Arsenal.
“With the Financial Fair Play rules (UEFA) coming into force City have been restricted in what they can spend but they will be more settled,” he added.
“Arsenal can be up there but they may suffer an effect from the World Cup with the German players.”
