Lukaku Hopes Everton Beat Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku wants Everton to beat Chelsea when the two teams clash in the Premier League this weekend.

The young Belgian striker had high hopes for a bright season at Stamford Bridge, and well he might have, considering his excellent loan spell at West Brom last time out.

But perhaps because he missed the losing penalty in the Uefa Super Cup, Lukaku has been deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea by manager Jose Mourinho, with veteran striker Samuel Eto’o given his place in the squad instead.

Up until transfer deadline day, Lukaku thought he would be given the chance to strut his muscular stuff for Chelsea this season, and it came as a shock when he was told to pack his bags.

And so when asked with whom his allegiance lies ahead of Chelsea’s visit to Goodison Park on Saturday, in a game in which he will not take part, Lukaku did not hesitate.

“Do you want Everton to win?” was the question posed.

“Yes, I have to be honest," he told the Daily Mirror.

Lukaku now exudes a sense of calm, having settled in at the new-look Toffees, despite the initial last-minute turmoil that saw him vacate Stamford Bridge.

"It was a crazy evening," he said of his part in transfer deadline day.

"I was sitting in my hotel room in Brussels when the phone went to tell me I was going out on loan again. It was 7pm, and that was the first I knew of it.”

Even though he may not be allowed to face the Blues due to the terms of his loan agreement with Everton, Lukaku wants them to come unstuck against the Toffees.

And after that, he will surely set about to prove again that he is worthy of a place in Mourinho’s plans for the future.
