Liverpool And Villa Share The Spoils

Liverpool fought back from two goals down to salvage a point as they drew 2-2 with Aston Villa at Anfield.

The draw sees Brendan Rodgers' men remain in fourth, while Villa move up to 10th in the standings.

Gabriel Agbonlahor nearly put the visitor's ahead in the first minute, the striker received latched onto Christian Benteke's knockdown, but poked his effort just wide.

Ashley Westwood tested Simon Mignolet in the 15th minute with volley from the edge of the box, but the midfielder fired his effort straight at the Belgian.

Daniel Sturridge tired his luck from distance in the 21st minute with a curling effort that went just wide of Brad Guzan's post.

Ciaran Clark came close to giving his side the lead in the 23rd minute as his header struck the upright, following a corner from Fabian Delph.

Adreas Wiemman gave Villa the lead just a minute later, with a finish from close range after some good work by Agbonlahor. 

Benteke doubled Villa's lead in the 36th minute, the Belgian headed into an empty net after a cross from Agbonlahor.

Sturridge pulled one back for Liverpool just before halftime as the striker scooped his effort over the on running Guzan, after Jordan Henderson's flick set the England international through on goal.

Steven Gerrard brought the hosts level in the 52nd minute from the penalty spot, after Luis Suarez was brought down by Brad Guzan.

Fabian Delph nearly put Villa ahead in the 59th minute with a curling effort from outside the area, but the effort went just wide.

Guzan was called into action in the 63rd minute to deny Suarez's snapshot from the edge of the area, after the Uruguayan latched onto a long ball from Henderson.

Two minutes later and Henderson came close to giving Liverpool the lead with a stinging shot that drew a fine save from Guzan.

Suarez nearly put Liverpool ahead in the 77th minute with a curling free kick that went inches wide of the post.
