All the European World Cup Qualifying Groups played their final matches tonight, as Russia, Bosnia, England and Spain joined Belgium, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland as automatic qualifiers for next year's World Cup.
The eight play-off spots were secured by Croatia, Sweden, Romania, Iceland, Portugal, Greece, France and the Ukraine.
In Group A Belgium had already qualified before tonight's results but still went on to beat Wales 1-0, while Croatia, who already secured second-place, reached the play-offs despite losing 2-0 to Scotland.
Italy, who drew 2-2 with Armenia, had already booked their place after winning Group B. Despite a 6-0 win for second-placed Denmark over Malta, they were the lowest finishing second-place team, and will not be going further.
Group C winners Germany, who had already qualified for Brazil, met Sweden, who had already secured a play-off place. In an entertaining game the Germans made a great comeback to beat the Swedes 5-3.
In Group D, group winners the Netherlands ended Turkey's play-off chances with a 2-0 away win. Romania grabbed second-place and a play-off spot by beating Estonia 2-0.
Switzerland, who have already qualified after topping Group E, beat Slovenia 1-0 to end their chances of reaching the play-offs. Iceland claimed the spot after drawing 1-1 with Norway and ending second in the group.
In Group F, Russia secured their ticket to Brazil, as they drew 1-1 with Azerbaijan to top the group. Portugal, who beat Luxembourg 3-0, finished second and will try to qualify via the play-offs.
In Group G, Bosnia-Herzegovina beat Lithuania 1-0 to make it to Brazil, while Greece beat Liechtenstein 2-0, but finished second on goal-difference and will face the play-offs.
England beat Poland 2-0 to book their spot and top Group H. The Ukraine thrashed San Marino 8-0 to grab second place and claim a play-off spot.
Spain beat Georgia 2-0 to win Group I and make sure they will be in Brazil to defend their title, while France beat Finland 3-0 to secure another chance of reaching the finals via the play-offs.
