English Premier League Round-Up

Seven English Premier League games were played this afternoon.

In the early game today Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 2-0 thanks to a Robin Van Persie penalty and Wayne Rooney free kick. Palace had been reduced to ten men in the first-half, when South African international Kagiso Dikgacoi was sent off for a foul on Ashley Young, which led to the penalty.

Aston Villa lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle United, as French international Hatem Ben Arfa scored one goal and was instrumental in Yoan Gouffran's winner. Christian Benteke scored for the home side.

Hull City and Cardiff City played to a 1-1 draw in this battle of the newly-promoted teams. Curtis Davies gave Hull the lead, heading in a cross from Tom Huddlestone. Peter Whittingham equalized for Cardiff, hitting a low shot from Don Cowie's cross.

Fulham had to be happy with a 1-1 home draw after West Bromwich Albion scored a stoppage time goal through Gareth McAuley to share the points. Steve Sidwell had put the home team up in the 22nd minute.

Stoke City and Manchester City played out to a goalless draw, City's fifth consecutive draw. Stoke had plenty of opportunities to get a winner but were unable to score past Joe Hart.

Arsenal got a good 3-1 away win at Sunderland, as debutant Mesut Ozil made his mark by setting up Olivier Giroud for the opener. Craig Gardner's penalty leveled scores in the second-half, but a brace from Aaron Ramsey saw the three points go back to London.

Gylfi Sigurdsson scored both goals as a convincing Tottenham beat Norwich City 2-0. Andre Villas-Boas will be happy with the debut of new signing Christian Eriksen, who set up the first goal.
