Clock Ticks For Goal Shy Benzema

Time may have run out for French international striker, Karim Benzema.

The Real Madrid hit-man has not scored in 15 games for his country, and despite his vehement self-defence, he has been cast as a scapegoat for Les Bleus’ World Cup qualifying stalemate with Georgia last week.

France have failed to score in their last five games for the first time ever, and as a result, coach Didier Deschamps has hinted that he may make changes to his starting line-up.

The former World and European champions face Belarus on Tuesday night, and must win if they are to remain in touch with Group Ieaders Spain, or resign themselves to the roulette of the playoff round when the group stage of qualifying is over.

France trail Spain by three points with two games to go, and asked if he would chop and change in a bid to score at last, Deschamps said on Monday night: "You'll see tomorrow.

"The players will know the starting team tomorrow."  

Meanwhile, France’s greatest hope is probably Franck Ribery, who has been in scorching form for the past 12 months with his Bundesliga club, Bayern Munich.

But unfortunately for Deschamps, Ribery is a pain in the ass, literally.

The dashing winger was France’s only bright spark against Georgia, but he is suffering from a buttock injury, and may not be fit to play on Tuesday night.

"He will train on his own tonight. He has not completely recovered, he still feels pain, he still feels uncomfortable," Deschamps said of Ribery.

"We'll have to see how he will respond. We still have time tonight, even tomorrow if needed, to heal the injury. I'll take my decision tomorrow."
