City Shrugs Off Cardiff

Manchester City beat Cardiff 4-2 at the Etihad on Saturday afternoon in the English Premier League.

Craig Noone cancelled out Edin Dzeko's opener, but Manchester City extended their lead with goals from Jesus Navas, Yaya Toure and Sergio Arguero, before Fraizer Campell scored a consolation goal in injury time.

The home side kept pace with Arsenal, who won at the same time, but the major talking point was when Edin Dzeko scored the club's 100th goal of the season in all competitions, to make City become the first club to score more than 100 goals before end of January in the English Premier League.

There was an early scare for Cardiff City as Edin Dzeko was brought down in the penalty box in the second-minute from the David Silva cross, but the penalty was not given. The home side got a corner instead.

Dzeko, got in the thick of things again, this time picking up a loose ball in the area forcing Marshall to make a good near post save in the ninth minute.

It wasn't surprising when in the 13th minute Dzeko opened the scoring, with a shot that proved to be controversial as it just crossed the line.

This brought Manchester City's tally to 100 goals in all competitions, and they become the first club to score as many goals before the end of January in the English Premier League.

In the 29th minute the away side levelled the scores with a stunner from Craig Noone, after he dribbled past the Man City defence and fired past Joe Hart.

In the 33rd minute the home side went ahead with a goal from Jesus Navas after Yaya Toure found Dzeko with a threaded pass. The ball went loose to Navas, who fired home. 2-1.

The home side looked for a third goal in the 49th minute as David Silva's cross was blocked but Yaya Toure's rebound went over the bar.

Dzeko produced some neat footwork to find Navas in the 57th minute, who dinked in a cross that was just too high for Alvaro Negredo to convert.

In the 74th minute, Dzeko again found Sergio Arguero with a pin point pass, the returning striker shooting just over the bar on a turn.

Yaya Toure extended the lead to 3-1, to put the result beyond doubt, as he picked up the ball in the middle, charged through the Cardiff defence, and played a neat one-two with Arguero to finish off the move in the 77th minute.

Arguero capped off the day with some individual brilliance to twist and turn before rattling a shot into the roof of the net in the 79th minute.
