“Our Football Needs An Administration Reshuffle” – Reader’s Voice

“Our Football Needs An Administration Reshuffle” – Reader’s Voice

South Africa generally has a crisis when it comes to strikers and scoring goals.

Thus, our league is struggling to find a striker who can break Collins Mbesuma's record of 35 goals in one season, which has stood since the 2004/05 season.

Our strikers are misfiring and are continuing to disappoint in front of goal. And these days we celebrate a golden boot award winner with 15 goals in a season, while, in Europe, the a leading goalscorer has scored as much as 73 goals in the past – Lionel Messi in the 2011/12 season.

Imagine what could have happened if our government had collaborated with SAFA immediately after we were welcomed back to the international football stage in 1992.

There's a lot of undiscovered raw talent out there who never been fortunate enough to be exposed to real opportunities. If the country had invested in both education and football early on, by having top football academies in all nine provinces of the country, we could have been spoiled for choice by now.

The Egyptian government have done so in Africa and top European countries have done it, so we need to make football the number one sport here.

SA rugby and cricket have done the same, but because of slow transformation and a lack of ideas, that ideal is far from becoming a reality. SAFA is still yet to announce the new coach for Bafana Bafana and our football needs an administration reshuffle. Danny Jordaan has done a tremendous job ever since he took over the office. However, he needs a strong team to steer this ship to the right direction.
