The late Laurie Cunningham was the first player to don the shirts of both clubs, and he was also one of the few players who played for Real before making the move to Old Trafford.

The former England international joined Los Blancos from West Bromwich Albion in 1979, before going on loan to United four years later. Cunningham sadly lost his life in a car accident when he was just 33 years old.

David Beckham also represented both sides, after leaving the Red Devils for Real in 2003, while Ruud van Nistelrooy followed the same path just three years later, as did Gabriel Heinze, who left United for the Santiago Bernabeu in 2007.

Retired England forward Michael Owen left Liverpool in 2004 to join the Galacticos, but lasted just one season in Spain before returning to the Premier League with Newcastle United. After four years with the Magpies, Owen was lured to the Red Devils by Sir Alex Ferguson.

That same year, 2009, Cristiano Ronaldo signed for the Spanish giants from United, which made him the world's most expensive player ever at the time.

Juan Mata, a Real youth product, is another player to have been on the books of both United and Los Blancos, as were Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and Angel Di Maria.
