Bayern Make Light Work Of Köln

German Bundesliga

Report: Bayern Munich 4-1  FC Köln

Date: 27 February 2015

Venue: Allianz  Arena

It was business as usual for Bayern Munich, as they thumped FC Köln 4-1 in a Bundesliga clash on Friday evening.

The defending league champions opened the scoring as early as the third minute courtesy of a powerful header from Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The lead was doubled in the 10th minute, Robert Lewandowski had his close range effort saved by Timo Horn but Franck Ribery was on hand to clinically slot home the rebound.

It proved to be a busy first half for the Koln shot-stopper, as he made another save to keep out Lewandowski's stinging effort from the edge of the area.

Koln managed reduce the deficit just before the halftime break, as Anthony Ujah rose highest to head home Mathias Lehmann's cross.

Thomas Muller should have increased Bayern's lead 10 minutes after the halftime break but the German forward steered his header wide of the mark from close range.

Manuel Neuer had to be at his best in the 58th minute, the Bayern shot-stopper pulled off two fine saves in quick succession to deny Ujah.

The hosts did manage to add to their advantage in the 67th minute, as Ribery picked out Arjen Robben with a delightful cross and the Dutchman placed his header into the far corner.

Lewandowski eventually got his name on the score-sheet 10 minutes later, turning home a cross from Robben to round off an impressive second half showing.
