Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has commented on Cristiano Ronaldo winning his fifth FIFA World Best Player award.
The Portuguese talisman was crowned winner of the award for the fifth time on Monday night, equalling the record Messi set two years ago.
Neymar, who was competing for the prize along with his former teammate, believes Ronaldo is a deserving winner.
"Congratulations to Cristiano. He deserves it and he has merit to win it," he said on Monday night, according to FourFourTwo.
"He is making history and that has to be respected. Both he and Messi are two figures in world football.
"I am happy to be in the same group as them, fighting for the trophy."
Ronaldo won both the La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League trophy with Real Madrid last season, although he was outscored by Messi.
