Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Themaba Zwane, talks about the lack of his club compatriots in the Bafana Bafana squad.
The 26-year-old received a call up to the national team despite enduring a mixed start to the season, where he has found himself on the bench at times and starting infrequently.
Zwane and fellow Sundowns midfielder, Bongani Zungu, are the only two Chloorkop-based players that have been called up by Shakes Mashaba for Bafana’s upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Angola.
The Tembisa-born midfielder does not believe that this is a reflection on his teammate’s capabilities, indicating that he thinks it is just down to Mashaba’s preferences.
“The national team coach has many players to choose from and he knows who he wants for the national team,” Zwane told Soccer Laduma.
“Maybe that’s why many of Sundowns players are not there… but that doesn’t mean they are not good. Sundowns is full of great players, most of whom play for their national teams.”
Do you think there should be more Downs player in the Bafana squad? Which Sundowns players would you like to see Mashaba chose in future?
