Bafana Bafana head coach, Shakes Mashaba, was named the Coach of The Year at the South African Sport Awards on Sunday night.

It's been a good year for Shakes, who qualified the national U20 side for the CAF Youth Championships, before he did the same with Bafana Bafana as they qualified for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, while ending the qualifying campaign unbeaten.

The award rounded off a good day for the national team head coach, after Bafana defeated Cote d'Ivoire 2-0 to clinch the Nelson Mandela Challenge trophy on Sunday afternoon.

Mashaba was not the only member of the football fraternity to be honoured at the awards ceremony, the late Senzo Meyiwa was a recipient of the Minister's Excellence Awards posthumously.

Bafana, Banyana Banyana, Amajita, Amagluglug, Shakes Mashaba ,Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Noko Matlou, and Lucas Radebe were also handed Excellence Awards.

In the final award of the night, Banyana Banyana star, Portia Modise, was voted by fans as the Sports Star of the Year, following a memorable year, after she passed the 100-goal mark for the national side.

She is the first footballer to achieve this feat in Africa, in both women's and men's football.
